There is no denying that dolphins and manatees seem to steal the show if you are near the water in Florida. However, there is so much wildlife to be seen in Florida and there is no shortage of shore birds. These beautiful birds are across the state and are frequently seen, no matter what part of Florida you are visiting.

Bald Eagles

We are happy to report that we see a TON of bald eagles while on paddle board tours across Florida. Their population has skyrocketed in recent years and we are excited to see it. Seeing a bald eagle in their natural environment is truly something very majestic and we frequently get to experience them in action feeding. We frequently encounter them swooping down and grabbing fish from the surface, which is quite impressive to see a bird that size do!

Roseate Spoonbills

Rare to the area, but frequently seen on tour is another beautiful bird, the roseate spoonbill. Named for their very odd looking, long spoon shaped bills, these shore birds are also frequently referred to as the “Florida Flamingo”. Roseate spoonbills are a beautiful pink color, coming from the shrimp and crabs in their diet. Given their pink color, they have received their nickname.

Osprey

The most common bird of prey in almost all of Florida’s coastal regions is the osprey. We frequently see ospreys on tour and they almost always put on a show. They dive into the water at incredible speeds and come back up with fish in their talons.

Flamingos

Flamingos have not lived in the wild within the state of Florida since 1925, until recently. In 2023, Hurricane Idalia sent many displaced flamingos to Florida and now they have been reported to be seen all over the state. Three Brothers Tours is lucky enough to see them in many of our tour locations.

More To See On Tour

These are only four of the most common, and most popular, shore birds we see while on tour. Other amazing birds that we have encountered include the massive Sandhill Crane, Woodstorks, underwater swimming anhinga, huge brown & white Pelicans, and many more!
